Sirct, the champion professional long-distnnce runner run-ner of France, today covered tho course of the Marathon race, a distance of about 26 miles, in 2 hours 37 minutes 23 seconds, breaking all previous records rec-ords for this contest. The time of John J. Hayes of New York in tho Olvmpic was 2 hours oo minutes IS seconds. The prize was $500 given by a newspaper. news-paper. There were eighty-nine competitors, competi-tors, including an American named Percy Srnallwood. Tho runners wore sent off by Princess Victoria of Schlcswig-JIolstein Second place was obtained by an Irishman named White. Srnallwood did not get a place.
