Two yeaTS ago a Long Island sound yachtsman built a souder class boat aud going up to Marblehead won tho right to represent the United StateB in tho international race against Germany. The yachtsman was tho latq Trenor L. Park and the craft was Vim. The boat won tho international in-ternational ceriea and Commodore Park became the possessor of the Roosevelt vup. Tho Germans are coming com-ing again next year and this timo n Gravesend bay sailor will have a craft in tho trial races. W. H. Childs, commodore of the Bcn-sonhurst Bcn-sonhurst Yacht club, has commissioned C. D. Mower, the well-known designer of Binall craft, to build a souder boat for next year. It is to b hoped that Commodore Childs will bo as succesHful in his undertakings as was Commodore Park in 1906. As it is tho first time that local Corintlnans have boon represented repre-sented in theso international matches it might bea good ijiea for Commodore Childs to give his boat an appropriate name. BenBonhurst has boon chosen already; al-ready; there is left, however, Graves-end Graves-end or Miss Brooklyn. |
