Tho. completion j of tho tour through tho middlo westoru states of Governor Hughes of New York hero tonight was made tho occasion occa-sion for a big Republican demonstration in which figured fireworks displays, street illumination and an immense meeting at m tho Coliseum. Governor Hughes arrived iu Chicago at 7 p. m., having in si.v days spoken in seven dif-j dif-j ferent states and delivered more than forty addresses. Greeted at tho boundary boun-dary of Illinois at Alion by Governor Deueen, the .New York governor mado a rapid all-day run to bo herd in timo to speak at the rally arranged in his honor. Tho govornor, who is almost free of tho throat troublo which threatened his voice, will leavo here tomorrow to-morrow afternoon for New York to tako up tho campaign in his own state. Tho demonstration hero was under tho auspices of the Hamilton club. For those unable to gain admission to the Coliseum an overflow meeting ou tho lake front had been arranged. Governor Hughes said in part: "3 will not discuss tonight tho Democratic Dem-ocratic slogan, 'Shall tho peoplo rule?' Tf you could see it in Now York carried down Broadway 011 the banners of Tammany Tam-many hall, you would scarcely call it a question.
