That results arc coming in an ex-cecdingl' ex-cecdingl' gratifying manner after tho expenditure of many millions of dollars dol-lars in placing the enormous red metal deposits of the Ely camp into shape, is vouched 1'or by Llow Humphries, consulting con-sulting engineer of the Gunn Thompson company, who is back after an inspection inspec-tion visit to the Ely district. Mr. Humphries Hum-phries has been connected with the Cumberland Ely company ever since its 1 inception, making the first reports on : tho same for the Guggenheim Explora- 1 tion company, and from that time he I has boeu closely associated with George ; E. Gunn in directing the development i on this great copper mine. j When asked yesterday for tho latest ' word from the copper camp of "White Pine county, Mr. Humphries said: ''From tho minute the wheels started to turn in the concentrating and smelting smelt-ing works of the Cumberland Ely and Nevada Consolidated companies, everything every-thing worked perfectly and absolutely without friction. The convcrtors arc now at work, and shipments of blister coppor from the works will be a matter mat-ter for the very near future. To thoroughly thor-oughly appreciate tho enormous amount of effort that has been applied at Ely, and to get a proper realization of the hard work necessary and difficulties which had to be overcome, one must go thero and see for himself. "On the Cumberland EIv ground the now electric hoisting works is in operation, op-eration, and it will tako care of these mines perfectly. This hoist is capable of bringing to tho surface eight tons per minute from a depth of 800 feet, out as we are only to the 400-foot level now, the capacity of the hoist is eight tons of ore each half minute, 'lhe steam shovel work on the Nevada Consolidated Con-solidated property is progressing in a very satisfactory manner, this method of mining being especially adapted for the handliug of Nevada Consolidated oros. Four of theso shovels arc now working, two removing the capping, the other two working on ores. "The railroad service throughout the camp is ideal, and the concentrator is receiving 1500 tons of ores a day. This amount of copper oro is taken down from tho mines by only ono enino and one train, which is an item of importance import-ance in the cost of copper production. The concentration of- these ores is giving giv-ing results oqual to all expectations, and it is thought that inside of thirty days two more sections of the big mill can bo placed in commission which will give tho plant a concentration capacity of 4000 tons of ore dail'. A fact of .interest .in-terest and importance in connection with the milling of the Ely ores is that grab samples of the coarser ;pR concentrates show a great deal of native na-tive copper, which materially will help out on the sum total of good accomplished. accom-plished. The smelter proper is highly high-ly satisfactory, and the million-dollar power plant is moving its wheels without with-out a hitch of any sort. "It needs only a glance at conditions in Ely to see that tho red metal will be made thore as cheaply and efficiently as the Utah Coppor or any other great producer in the world can make it, and what it means to Nevada cannot be overestimated. Ely presents the scene for the first time within the borders of the slate for modern metallurgical science to unfold its wonders, and the prestige it will give Nevada is a thing wo all appreciate." During hia trip he will visit the Nevada Douglas property and the Mason Valley at Yerington, also al-so tho Nevada Hills mine at Fairviow. As to Yerington, he is very enthusiastic enthusias-tic over tho outlook, and predict that this section soon will be in a position to compete successfully for first placo in the ranks of Nevada coppor producing produc-ing sections.
