Show Moon Lake Elec to increase rates May 1 A public hearing was held April 23 in Moon Lake Electric Association's meeting room for their Board of Directors to hear a proposal for a rate increase to recover the rising cost of power, labor and materials by increasing in-creasing revenues in Utah 3.57 percent or $326,831. After hearing the case, examining the supporting exhibits and giving the consumers present an opportunity to make comments and raise questions, the increase was approved and will become effective May 1. This will result in an increase of $0.00105 per kilowatthour for all kilowatthours sold. The average residential consumer, who uses 1052 kilowatthours per month, will see a difference of $1.11 in their monthly bill. At the hearing management pointed out that while they are continually looking for and adopting cost saving measures, at the same time laws are continually being enacted that impose regulations that are expensive for the utility to comply with. Company officials stated that they have up to now been able to keep the rates of consumers in Moon Lake's service area considerably lower than the surrounding area and much lower than most of the nation but that the cost of securing a power supply is skyrocketing and within the next month a request for a much higher increase will be necessary. |
