Show HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS Live in the gladness of today By Ermu Jenn Lee "No bureaucracy can standardize men and women for the Creator has sent us forth unstandardized that we may develop our virtues of psychesoul." "It is wise, then, to be alert to current propaganda influences which sometimes threaten our basic security. Be quick to know whether the voice sounding in the market place is an enemy ranting against industrial enterprise, enter-prise, or the guidance of a wise counselor." FrankH.Cheley, edited. Do you live gladly today? Or do the voices sounding in the market place fill you with fear and confusion? The voices of war, pollution, inflation, energy crisis, nuclear unrest, hostages and turmoil in other nations are certainly cer-tainly not something to be glad about. Nor, it would seem, are the bold changes in social crises, life styles, religious criticism, or biological preferences flooding the news media. The sands in the hourglass of our Being are rushed and crushed by all these voices hurled upon us. We are forced to listen, to choose, to speak or to retreat, to give up, to begin the decay of death. Our day is filled with voices, with crises, with choices, yet, do you realize that without them millions of people would be bored "...out of their gourd, skin, skull?" Helen Maclnness said: "Nothing is interesting if you're not interested," in-terested," "Half the sins of mankind," says Bertrand Russell, "are caused by fear of boredom." That's right. Boredom! The crises in the news voices lulling and soothing, shouting and persuading, fawning and manipulating all make us interested. We are inspired to pay attention, to ponder, to think. Still too many thinkers, languishing . in armchairs, are trying to solve world ' issues rather than taking a part in their local government scene. Here is where we love, live and be, where we are more likely to be heard, where our 'fantasies of human economic paradise' are : welcome and can be built. Rabbi Zusya is reported to have said that on the Day of Judgment, God would ask him not why he had not been Moses but why he had not been Zusya. We are not here to become some perfect world leader, or to view a fiery image of the second coming (which our defense systems would shoot down!), but we're here to be the best person we can be, to exert ourselves to the fullest by name, labors, talents, skills, knowledge and spiritual experiencehowever ex-periencehowever it came to be. We're here to change our personal environment, environ-ment, to serve our community and to create miracles by perserverance in serving our fellows in need of courage, faith, hope. If castles in the air are your gladness, fine, as Thoreau said: "That's where they should "be, now put foundations under them." How many of you do not know what to do with today, but you're waiting for another life which will last for eternity? "Join the great company of those who make the barren places of life fruitful with kindness," Helen Keller said. "Carry a vision of heaven in your hearts and make your home, your business, the world, correspond to that vision. Your success and happiness of life lies in you. External conditions are the accidents of life, its outer trappings, the great, enduring realities are love and service. Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence in-telligence aglow. Resolve to keep happy, hap-py, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulty. " The Uintah Basin needs your enduring endur-ing love and service, your joy, your glowing intelligence of genius, ideas, self-control in empathy, respect and happy, caring perspective towards others. Let's build a new frontier of humane enterprises people caring about people volunteering; learning constructive, responsible careers; performing per-forming ethical businesses; educating our rainbow or soulspsyches; becoming becom-ing aware, alert, participating in skilled skill-ed employment, hobbies and leisure. Whatever your need or talent, the community com-munity culture, recreation, schools or governing bodies can use your cheerful presence, your responsible input and wise suggestions. The need for Love is greatest where you are. Evil may not win the whole earth, but if You have given up your cheer because of the voices in the market place evil has won you. Dear Ones. ..don't give, up. ..Live in the Gladness of today I Smile for the week: "The Bible tells us to love our neighbors and also to love our enemies probably because they . are generally the same people." G.K. Chesterton. |
