Show Grand Valley crude oil pipeline outlined A new pipeline to take crude oil by a. circuitous route from the West Coast to Salt Lake City would run through about 186 miles of eastern Utah desert area, a Bureau of Land Management official said last week. The proposed pipeline according to John Stephenson, chief of the BLM's recently formed state project management staff, would be known as the Grand Valley Project. It would enter Utah near the Four Corners region and travel north through San Juan and Grand counties, then would leave the state somewhere near the Colorado River. It would continue in Colorado and re-enter Utah in Uintah County. The pipeline would then connect con-nect with an existing line to Salt Lake City. A memorandum given to the committee com-mittee from Milo A. Barney, the state's resources coordinator, said the project is sponfored by Pure Transportation Co., ARCO, Husky Oil Co., Asmera Oil Inc., and Gary Energy Co. The project would involve construction of a 16-inch pipeline. "They would like to start construction con-struction sometime in 1981 and have it in operation in 1982," the memo said. Stephenson indicated the oil would be from the Alaskan oil fields, which would be transported to the West Coast by tanker from Prudhoe Bay. |
