STARS to be seen on Sunday, May 4. by Joey Sasso I CONFIDENTIAL REPORT: The last farewell: Better I believe there are plenty of hard feelings on both sides I accompanying the recent departure of Mackenzie I Phillips from TV's 'One Day At A Time' hit. On one I side, supporters of Miss Phillips say the troubled young I actress-singer was more than frank about the nature I of her troubles with her bosses at T.A.T. Productions, I but her heart-felt pleas fell on very deaf ears. But I T.A.T., on the other side, released Miss Phillips from I the show with only three more episodes to be shot I for this season. Why couldn't T.A.T. show some I compassion and let Miss Phillips at least do those I episodes and then quietly fade into the woodwork? I That's a question she and her powerful manager, Pat I McQueeny are still asking themselves . . . Paramount I might be blowing the whistle, at least legally, on ABC's I new 'When The Whistle Blows' series. Attorneys for the I studio may file suit against ABC and Universal for I infringing on the rights of Paramount's John Travolta I starter, 'The Urban Cowboy.' In the film, Travolta plays I a worker in the Texas oil fields who blows off steam I at night in Gilley's, the Houston bar where modern-day I cowboys try to tame a giant mechanical bull. As I viewers of 'When The Whistle Blows' know, that show I delves into the lives of fun-loving construction workers I who get their after-hours kicks in a saloon that it just I so happens, features a big mechanical buckin' bronc. I Sounds kind of. familiar, no? That's just what I Paramount toppers think, what with a minimum of $12 I million invested in 'The Urban Cowboy,' which is I scheduled to debut in theaters in June. I TV TICKER: The search for a new Angel to replace I Shelley Hack goes on over at the 'Charlie's Angels' I offices in Century City, and the current thinking at I Spelling-Goldberg Productions seems to be that an I ethnic actress would give the show the ratings boost I it needs after a so-so season with the Nielsens. PertU I Khambatta, the alluring actress from India who starred I in 'Star Trek-The Motion Picture,' is under serious I consideration, one source at Fox reports. The I producers may very well hold out for a black actress I to fill the vacant spot on 'Charlie's Angels,' but insiders I are devilishly predicting that Bo Derek's sister, Kelly I Collins, will ultimately emerge as the winner in this J race. TV CLOSEUP: Blonde bombshell Lonl Anderson has the amazing psychic ability to see her future. Then she just sits back and waits for it to come true. The 'WKRP in Cincinnati' star says her powers have been an integral part of her life "since I was a little girl. I could actually see myself on the TV set. I knew beyond any doubt that someday I was going to be on that screen and that I was going to be an actress playing in a situation comedy." . . . 'Facts of Life' are very real for Charlotte Rae who has moved her role as worldly-wise housekeeper Mrs. Garrett into the spin-off from 'Diff'rent Strokes.' "The parallels between raising my own wonderful boys Larry, 20 and Andy, 24 are similar in many ways to my roles in both series," says Charlotte who's now cast as house-mother in a boarding school . . . Ana Alicia, a guest star on several television episodic programs including a regular role on the daytime drama 'Ryan's Hope,' will star in 'Roughnecks,' the second Metromedia Producers orporation project in its Golden Circle series " - !i I ' ' ' ; 1: ;- n ... ... , ,i, ' . jonn wayne stars as an ex-wvu war army officer who manages to find his share of battles in the west as he takes on a gang of carpetbaggers in RIO LOBO, an adventure drama to be rebroadcast as a special movie presentation Saturday, May 3 on CBS-TV. |
