Show School district announcing summer school The 1980 summer school program will be offered to those students of the Uintah Uin-tah School District who have not achieved. 75 of their minimal competencies, com-petencies, are below their language arts level (reading, spelling, grammar), gram-mar), or are below in computational mathematics, social studies, or science it was announed this week. Although because of finances the one-to-one home teaching has necessarily had to be discontinued, the district is attempting at-tempting to provide the same type of individual in-dividual instruction albeit in a group environment. One-on-one review is emphasized em-phasized in these academic areas. The program will run Monday through Thursday from July 7 through August 14. There will be no instruction on Fridays. Students will spend approximately approx-imately one to two hours per day in classwork depending on the designed program. Classes will be taught at Ashley Elementary for those elementaries in Vernal, at Uintah High School for students from Vernal Jr. High or Uintah Uin-tah High, at Todd Elementary for students at Todd Elementary or West Jr. High. Cost of the program will be $10 per child. Full payment will be required at the time of registration. All checks for summer school will be made to the Uintah Uin-tah School District. Entrance into the program can come through a letter of referral from the school to the parent or from the parent himselfherself seeking additional skill development for their child. Registration Registra-tion will be with Marlene Atwood at the District Board Office (635 West 200 South) on May 28, 29, 30 between the hours of 9 and 4:30. Registration will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Parents are reminded that children who fall behind their classmates at any particular grade level often never catch up the next year. It is best to attempt to remediate the situation at that very grade level. For a secondary youth having problems it could mean the difference dif-ference between graduation or not. |
