The Utes made a number of errors in the first two innings, but the Vernal baseballers settled down in the next five innings and turned in a number of defensive gems. Brent Labrum nabbed a throw which was wide of the bag and was able to keep his foot planted on the base for an out. Uintah had only a one-run lead of 3 to 2 in the top of the seventh, but the Utes' defense shut down the Pirate offensive attack. Applegate hit a wild shot, but Brent Labrum took a dive into the dirt and came up with the ball before it hit the ground for the first out. Rod Anderson Ander-son nabbed a ball hit by Lund of Cyprus and converted it into the second out when he fired the ball to Uintah's first baseman, Brent Labrum. When asked to comment on the double dou-ble by Raymond Perry, which drove in the winning run in the game with Cyprus, Kevin Khoury, remarked, "Raymond has been hitting the ball. He has our highest average. Perry and McCarrel are probably our best two hitters." Uintah had a 5 to 2 lead going into the seventh inning in the game with Tooele on April 22. Tooele loaded the bases and Randy Tate drilled the first pitch over the fence for a grand slam with two outs for a 6 to 5 lead. Bad luck haunted the Utes in the bottom bot-tom of the seventh inning.
