Show Local poets receive state awards Vernal xets were well represented with awards at the Utah State Poetry Society awards festival Saturday. Melha H. Tullis received a gold plaque pla-que for her book "Wings Of Will" which won for excellence in regional poetry. Mrs. Tullis also won first place in the L. and L. Sonnet category and an honorable mention in the Peggy Tangren Nature category. Other winners from Vernal were Carol Lynn Terry with two firsts. One in the Newcomers award and a first and third place in the Provo KIdred Center award. Another first place winner was Mildred Mansfield who won in the 1'eggy Tangren Nature Poem contest for serious poetry. She also won an honorable mention in the Orsen K. Whitney award. Bonnie Howe received second place in Free Verse and third place in the Kva Willes Wangsgaard contest for traditional tradi-tional peotry and an honorable mention in the Veneta L. Nielsen Humanities award. For poets under 1.1 years of age, Iren .Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Kvan Jones, received an honorable mention. The awards festival was held at the Ramada Inn in Salt Lake City and culminated a two day workshop and conference. |
