Show Union Si Uintah Switched To New Region For Mball Play in "56 Basin Schools Remain Part Of Region Eight For Other Sports; Get Four Teams In '57 Tournament After several years of hoping, planning and working, the dreams of Union and Uintah High Schools have come true. By action of the Utah High Schools Activities Association, the Cougars and Utes will be competing in football next fall with schools in the Wasatch-Summit division. Realignment of the state's Class B high school regions, plus an addition of Notre Dame at Price, San Juan and Monticello to the football picture, made it possible to move the two Uintah Basin schools 'who compete in football where they belong geographically. Principal Loman F. Hutchings Hutch-ings and Coaches Ted Heath and Glenn Allred, along with students and grid fans in Roosevelt Roos-evelt were elated over the new football alignment, and predict greater interest in the fall sport come next fall. Mr. Hutchings and Principal Glen Ovard of Uintah attended the football-schedule football-schedule meeting in Salt Lake City on Tuesday night. At the recent meeting of the UHSAA board other phases of the high school athletic set-up were considered and additional changes made. With the recent approval to make the Class A set up more expansive by adding several B schools to the A class, and play a 16-team tournament, instead of 12, came some changes in the B groups. The April 23rd meeting of the board of directors provided by drawing for the 16th team to compete' com-pete' in the B tournament. Five regions, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 will rotate their turns each year for the extra team. For example. Region Reg-ion 8, which includes Grand, San Juan, Emery, Carbon, Uintah and Duchesne counties, drew the right to have four teams in the 1957 "B", basketball tournament at Pro-vo; Pro-vo; in 1958 Region 10 will have four; 1959, it goes to Region 6; 1960 it will' be Region 7, and in 1961, it will again come to Region 8. Drawings were' made to establish estab-lish the rotation basis, which will follow indefinitely. Uintah and Union schools, along with the other three Basin high schools will remain as they now are for basketball as a part of Region 8. This area formerly was known as Region Five'. Two divisions di-visions will still exist in basketball basket-ball with the winner and runner-up runner-up teams of both divisions going to the 1957. tournament. Principals, or other designated representatives, met at Judge-Memorial Judge-Memorial High School in Salt Laker Tuesday night to draw the new football schedule, which will find Union and Uintah competing with Judge Memorial, Morgan, North Summit, South Summit, Park City (Continued on Back Page) k FOOTBALL SWITCH . . .
