Ranked number ten by the N.A.I.A. coaches poll last week, the MOuntaineers host Colorado Mines (2-2) Saturday. In other action this week, Ft. Lewis (2-2) travels to Cedar City to face Southern Utah (3-1), Southern Colorado (4-0) goes to New Mexico Highlands (0-5), (0-5), Southwestern Oklahoma plays at Eastern New Mexico (3-2), Adams State (3-1), hosts Mesa (0-4) and Westminster (1-2) meets Western New Mexico (1-2) in Silver City. Last week Western State knocked Adams State from the unbeaten ranks 31-18;Ft. Lewis handed New Mexico Highlands it's fifth straight loss 10-6; Southern Colorado drilled Western New Mexico 36-10; Colorado Mines held on to drop Mesa 31-24; Eastern New Mexico got back on the winning track with a 20-10 victory over Northwestern Oklahoma and Southern Utah whipped Westminster 37-15. JAMES-LUNDSTROM-GORDON-NAMED PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Western State tight-end Tyron James has been named offensive player while Southern Utah State linebacker John Lundstrom and Ft. Lewis free safety Tom Gordon have been selected co-defensive players of the week by NAIA District Seven. James was named for his effort in Western's 31-18 win over Adams State. The 6-1, 185 pound senior from Aurora, Colorado caught four passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. His touchdown catches were good for 47 and 30 yards. Lundstrom, a 5-10, 180 pound junior from Sandy, Utah had 12 tackles (4 solo, 8 assists), a fumble recovery, quarterback quar-terback sack, and knocked, down two passes in the T-Birds T-Birds 37-15 win over Westminster. West-minster. Gordon , a 6-1, 180 pound Freshman from Miani, Forida had two interceptions (one he returned 33 yards to set up F. Lewis' only score), five tackles (2 solo, 3 assists), and a fumble |
