' Seven members of the Cedar City High School Orchestra participated this past week in the All-State orchestra performance held in conjunction with the UEA Convention. CHS students in UEA concert Cedar City High School had seven strings players in the All-State Orchestra Or-chestra which performed in the Salt Lake Tabernacle as part of the Grand Festival Concert for UEA Friday. This is the largest number of students Cedar High has eve .had qualify fot the orchestra, and in addition, they all placed very well in the" seating auditions. In a section of 24 second violins, Jan Jolley was tenth. In the first violin section of 24 players, Leslie Peterson placed seventh, Regina Peterson was tenth, and Cathy Mitchell was 11th. Frank Thorley and Eric Leavitt also played in the bass section, but missed the seating audition in order to play in the Cedar-Lehi football game. The orchestra, composed of approximately ap-proximately 100 of the top orchestra players from all high schools in the state, played the Berceuse and Finale from the" Firebird Suite by Stravinsky, Stravin-sky, the first movement of Mozarts' Eine Kliene Nacht Music, and the fourth movement of Tchaikowsky's Fifth Symphony. Under the direction of Robert Bowden, conductor of the Mormon Youth Symphony, the All-State Orchestra Or-chestra performed superbly following three days of intensive rehearsal. It was a memorable experience for the large audience and for the participating par-ticipating students. |
