Show Bureau supports exempt clause A proposal made by Senators -George McGovern (D-SD) and Robert Dole (R-Kan.) to exempt from the highway use tax, in the Revenue Act of 1978, trucks that haul farm products and supplies has won sup port from the Utah Farm Bureau Federation because it will help reduce consumer food prices at the basic level. Frank O. Nishiguchi, Garland farmer and head of the 15,000 member family organization, praised Utah Senators Jake Garn and Orrin Hatch for co-sponsoring the amendment. "By this action, Senators Garn and Hatch have demonstrated that they mean to fight inflation on many fronts," Nishiguchi declared. The Revenue Act of 1978, in its present form before the Senate finance committee, contains several amendments that would help the nation's farmers continue to produce food. |
