Show City adds flew Officers Two new police officers were appointed ap-pointed by the City Council Thursday night. The new officers chosen from 11 candidates are Terry Peterson, formerly with the Iron County Sheriff's office, and Glenn Miller, formerly with the city's street department. In other action, the city acknowledged receipt of a grant from the state to rehabilitate low income families. The $5200 is smaller than the amount given last year and will be used to improve low income housing. Approximately ten families will be aided with an average of $500 each depending on the number of occupants oc-cupants per home. The money is used especially to aid widows on fixed incomes with expenses such as roof repairs. The program is coordinated through Dr. Ralph Starr and the Community Development Program at Southern Utah State College. Building plans for a Pizza Hut on 600 South and Main St. were approved and annexation for the new Los Hermanos restaurant's water and sewage plans were also approved. City Manager, John Hendrickson, reported that the city swimming pool will hopefully be dedicated by Governor Matheson during early Nov. during the Iron Mission Days and SUSC's homecoming celebrations. A donation of $2,000 was approved for the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce and the possibility of developing an educational and promotional program with the state Film Promotion Office and SUSC to increase southern Utah's contact with the film industry was discussed. |
