Show Game Dept Figures Expected to Show Season Hunt Success Final success figures covering Utah deer hunting for 1955 were expected to show one of the best seasons on record as the extended extend-ed season for regular license hunting came to a close on Nov. 27, the department of fish and game said today. All spec'al permit deer hunts have also been called for this year, leaving only the "conditional" "condi-tional" type special hunts to be called if weather and other factors fac-tors create herd problems in some areas wnere xnese eiut-igein-y type shoots have pjoven a good management measure. The department said the many different and diversified deer hunts this year had resulted in better hunter distribution, with the resulting present forecast of hunter success. All big game hunting in Utah is scheduled by the Board of Big Game Control. In setting the deer hunts for 1955 the board used several new tpes of seasons in an effort to attract hunters into herd units where more hunting pressure was needed. The seasons were initiated with the archery only hunt which started Sept. 3 and continued through Sept. 25. First of the rifle ri-fle hunters went afield on the special permit two deer hunts set for Sept. 21 Oct. 2 on the Antimony An-timony and Henry Mountain units. Regular license hunting began with the early opening Oct. 15 of Unit 24 on the eastern slopes of the Uintah Mountains. The general gen-eral season got under way Oct. 22, with an 11 day hunt for either eith-er sex animals going forward over most of the state. The board this year used the I following types of hunts in its I effort to bring an equitable deer harvest to the hunter's gun through adequate hunter distri-buion; distri-buion; early seasons, longer seasons, sea-sons, extended week ends, buck onlv areas, two deer units, short- er seasons, and many types of special permit hunts. The final harvest and hunters afield figures are expected to show the management success of the total program this year. These figures will be available during early 1956 following final Jicense sales reports from dealers, plus field, checking station, and kill card report compilation. |
