Show Who Benefits Most? Who benefits most from the operation of American industry that is, from capitalism? A report from the American Economic Foundation is revesting. During the last 26 years for which figures are available, the payrolls of our corporations came to $1,516,-211.000,000. $1,516,-211.000,000. The dividends paid to the owners of the cor-portions, cor-portions, whose savings and investments made the payrolls possible, totaled less than one-tenth as much. In 1850, the share of the national income represented toy salaries and wages was about 36 per cent. Now it is about 70 per cent practically double. Capitalism has done more good things for more people peo-ple than any other economic system ever devised. |
