Show Redmen Line-up Named for Richfield Opener Coach Ray Englestead has rounded out his basketball squad at the Cedar City High School to 16 men and he has been hard at work this week drilling his crew in preparation for the season opener against Richfield Friday evening. That game will get underway at the College of Southern Utah Fieldhouse at 8.00 p.m. Last season sea-son Cedar opened against Richfield Rich-field and won the game by a slim margin, 42 to 39. Otis McCall, 6-4 senior who had trouble last year with shin splints, is stUl on the doubtful list this season. Coach Englestead indicates that McCall has shown I extremely well in practices rhis past week. "We have licked the shin-splint problem," he said, "but now McCall has wrenched his knee and is currently recuperating recup-erating from that injury." With McCall probably on the bench Coach Englestead has announced an-nounced that his remaining five lettermen will probably start in the opening clash. All are seniors. sen-iors. Coach Englestead is facing another an-other problem, however. On the remaining list of 10 names onJy two boys reach the six foot mark. The potential for next year, height-wise, is slim pickings. Topping the list in the stretch to the basketball on the remain- i , Ing hopefuls is Gardiner Dal-ley Dal-ley at 61 with Ray Bauer hitting hit-ting an even 6 feet. One other senior is still working work-ing out. That is Reed Murdock, 5-10, a transfer from Beaver High School. Others, all juniors, on the 16 man squad are: Reed Heywood, 5-6; Jerry Farnsworth. b-7; Eevan Corry, 5-10; Michael Frame, 5-10; Sheldon Sargent, 5-10; Jon Isom. 510; and A. D. Flndley, 5-11. Coach EngJestead expects to make one more cut on his squad reducing the team to 12 men. However, he expects to work the 1 16 men through at least two of ; th pre-season games before he J makes the final cut. |
