Show City Officials Study Bids for Library Construction Bids for the construction of a new city and county library at Cedar City were opened Tuesday night by the city and county library li-brary boards and representatives from the city and county "administration. "admin-istration. Although amounts of the bids have not been released, indications are that the bide were favorable and that a contract will undoubtedly be awarded soon. It is understood that the bids received were within the range of estimates of costs, and that there was only a narrow variance vari-ance from the lowest to highest bid. The group considering the bids decided Tuesday night to delay action on the proposals until investigation of the qualifications quali-fications of all bidders could be made. This is being done now, and It Is expected that a meeting will be held early next week at which recommendations for the awarding of the contract will be made. Of course, final action must be taken by the board of County Commissioners and the City Council, the contracting parties. par-ties. The county will provide 70 per cent of the funds for the building build-ing with Cedar City providing the remaining 30 per cent. The building will be located on the corner of 100 West and Center Streets in Cedar City. Although a contract will undoubtedly un-doubtedly be awarded next week, it is expected that actual construction con-struction will not get under way until favorable weather conditions condi-tions develop in the spring. An important factor in the contract will be that more time than usual us-ual will be allowed, so that the contractor need not rush work when weather conditions are unfavorable un-favorable or materials are unavailable. |
