Game time Is 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening Coach Petty made a final cut in his squad narrowing the team number to 12, which he will carry throughout through-out the season. Reason for the cut, which wasn't anticipated un-: tU late in the pre-season schedule, was to afford an opportunity for, those men who were cut to pjay basketball in some other league such as the LDS M-Men league. The 1956 hopes of the Broncos now rests on the shoulders of these 12 men and they will get their first official "underfire" workout Saturday before local fans. Chaffey is playing Dixie CoUege at St. George Friday evening and Coach Petty will be on hand to see not only Chaffey but the Dixie Rebels work, as well. A tentative starting lineup for Saturday's contest was given by , Coach Petty as follows: At center will be Donald Floyd j a 6-3'i lad from Delta who saw a lot of action for the Broncos last season. Coach Petty wL'l be relying on this man for the bulk of the offensive play this season. In his final year of eligibility in junior college play Floyd will be expected to fill the shoes of Keith Cooley this season. Bob Davis, guard and six feet j ita.11, will be on the guard line in the opening game. Davis is also a letterman returning from, last season. A good ball handler he works well with Flovd and is also working well with the I new material in the lineup this season. j Three other probable starters are aU new to the Bronco snuad I this season. 1 Two of the three are sophomore sopho-more students who attended northern schools last year and returned to CSU in the fall of this year. Vernon Roundy, 6-4 nches, from Escalante, will be working at the forward spot and changing with Floyd in the post position. Roundy has shown a lot of stuff and works his heighth advantage we.11, Petty said. At the other guard spot will be David Orton of Parowan. He is an even six feet tall and has shown 'a Jof of drive and Is particularly good at feeding into the post position to set up plays. Orton attended Utah State Agricultural College at Logan last year and has transfered to CSU this season. sea-son. Fifth man on the tentative starting list and the only freshman fresh-man will be Robert Hill, a 6-2 forward from Gunnison. Members of Cedar High School squad will remember Hill in state tournament tourna-ment play last season. Hill is a smooth ball handler and a fine passer. Although lacking in experience ex-perience he should develop well during the pre-conference season. The remaining roster on the 12 man squad is as follows: Bob Porter. 511 from Escal- ante; Jerry Frame, an even six foot tall from Cedar High School; Ted Chedister, a Panguitch lad, a letterman, 6-2' tall; BMek Clark, center from last year's Parowan High team, 6-4'-i; Wayne Allen, 6 feet tall Irom Gunnison; Burke Johnson, 5-11 from Salina, and Dp.'e Langston, 6-3 from Delta. |
