Show - 1 Community Boosters The officers and members of the Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce, and particularly the members of the Christmas Lighting committee, are entitled to a vote of thanks from the people of Cedar City and the merchants particularly for the excellent program of lighting undertaken under-taken this year, and for their efforts along this line in years past. There is no doubt but that the Christmas lighting program pro-gram adds much to the holiday spirit in the community. From a merchant's standpoint it stimulates earlier buying which is of tremendous value, and it attracts outside trade throughout the holiday season. Ffom4he standpoint of the. general public, the program pro-gram certainly creates an atmosphere of holiday-happi; ness, particularly among the children, and anything that adds to the happiness of the population is an important contribution Jo community living. It is hoped that the people of Cedar City do not take the lighting program for granted, but realize and appreciate the effort that is required to formulate such a program and put it into effect. There is considerable expense involved. Of course, merchants and others have helped with this, but the Jaycees have also conducted fund raising campaigns of their own to help meet this expense. In addition,' few people realize the amount of work involved in-volved in handling such a program. It takes many hours of labor to prepare the lighting fixtures, to install them, And not only that, but much labor to take them down after the season is over, and store them properly for future use. Not many of the young men who have given so freely of their' time in this program get a direct personal gain from it. The only pay they get is the satisfaction of having contributed con-tributed to community living, the thanks they may receive re-ceive directly from those who benefit from the program and those who enjoy it, and perhaps some club recognition in competition with other clubs about the country. The Jaycees are dong much for Cedar City on this program, and the least any one of us can do is let them .know that their efforts are appreciated. |
