Show County Agents Meet With Residents j To Explain Program Two meetings and a third scheduled sche-duled for this afternoon, Thursday, Thurs-day, in three different sections of Iron County were held by the Iron County Extension Service with Miss Emma Nei.'son, home demonstration agent and Wallace Wal-lace Sjoblom, extension agent, conducting. The first of the three meetings , designated to inform the people i of Iron County of what the Ex-I Ex-I tension Service is and how it op-I op-I crates', was held Wednesday af-I af-I ternoon at the Beryl school house. , The second meting was held j Wednesday evening in the courtroom court-room of the City and County I building and the third is sot for ,1:30 p. m. today, Thursday, In i Parowan. j Miss Neilson opened the meeting, meet-ing, both at Beryl and at Cedar, with a history of the Extension Service, explaining how it came into being and how it is presently operated. She explained that the service is a partnership of the United States Department of Agriculture, Ag-riculture, the Land Grant Col-leges Col-leges and the peop.'e of the coiinty where offices are located. Financial Sources The home demonstration agent further explained how she and Mr. Sjoblom are actually faculty facul-ty members of the Utah State Agricultural Ag-ricultural College at Logan and that a little more than 50 per cent of the salaries is paid by the Department of Agriculture, with the remaining portion coming through the USAC. Iron County, through appropriation by the Commissioners pays, for office and travel expense. She also explained that in addition ad-dition to the services of the local lo-cal office, leaders' and specialists, available through the Extension office on the USAC campus, contribute con-tribute to the program, allowing greater participation and information infor-mation for those being served in the area. Mr. Sjoblom in his discussion and report explained the" part that volunteer leaders play in the extension program. He also discussed, dis-cussed, through the presentation of slides, various projects carried on for the past year by the extension ex-tension office. The slides and discussions dis-cussions covered the agricultural and home demostration work plus the 4-H Club program carried car-ried on by the office during the summer months. At both Beryl and Cedar City the extension personnel called on those in attendance to participate in a planning session with marry suggestion given as to- proposed projects and activities for the coming year.
