Show HAPPENINGS IN PARAGONAH I By Nora Lund School programs, and graduation gradua-tion exercises seem to spotlight the news in our town this week. We wish to extend congratulations congratula-tions to Joan Lamoreaux, Hettie Anne Jones Bentley, Murray Top-ham Top-ham and Dalt Smith for being in the graduation lineup on Tuesday at Parowan High School. Miss Lamoreaux very ably delivered de-livered on the theme talks, "Challenge to Religion," to the large and appreciative audience of parents and friends. Our elementary school graduates gradu-ates on Monday evening were: Phyllis Robb, Helen Jean Dalton, Carolyn Jones, Laura Lamoreaux, Jack Lister, Eugene Robb, Max Partner, Ronald Topham, Michael Mich-ael Williamson, LaNell Topham, Eugene Boardman, Michael Lamoreaux. Lam-oreaux. They, with the seventh grade, gave a delightful entertainment enter-tainment of plays, skits and songs for their closing program. Mr. and Mrs. Amasa Stones are circulating the news of a new granddaughter, born early Saturday Satur-day morning at the Iron County hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Carlyle Mitchell of Cedar City are the fourth time parents, with three girls and one boy. The Stqnes were In Cedar City Friday evening to attend the graduation program of their oldest old-est granddaughter, Miss Linda Mitchell. Mrs. Miriam Anderson accompanied accom-panied Mr. and Mrs. Homer S. Boardman to Moab last week to attend the graduation of their nephew. Bill Adair, from the Grand County High School. Bill is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivor Adair. The visitors report a delightful de-lightful trip and were extravagant extrava-gant in their Draise of the Moab country. The Adairs are In the process of building a new home and were much disappointed to learn that the survey line for the new hlehwav goes directly-through directly-through their house. Mrs. Dorothy Barton and sons drove to Orderville on Friday to spend a few days with her Sor-enson Sor-enson folks, returning on Tuesday. Tues-day. Mrs. Emma Dalton's fourth and fifth grades gave their school program on Wednesday evening. It consisted of skits and chor uses which were exceptionally good. Mrs. Melva Barton assist-ed assist-ed with the music in all the programs. Dancing concluded the evening's events. We wish to compliment Mr. and Mrs. Basil Gilger, our new merchants, on the progressive little lit-tle paper they distributed during dur-ing the week. Their local news items and store specials were very interesting and timely. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Bent-ley Bent-ley were In attendance at the commencement exercises In Pan-guitch Pan-guitch on Friday night. Their presence there was to especially honor the graduation of Miss Adell Iverson and Miss Pat Frandson, nieces of Mrs. Jones. "Herbie and the Mumps" was a clever little play presented by Mr. Benson's 7th and 8th grade students to parents and friends on Friday night. Phyllis Robb and Max Partner did a romantic Negro vocal number which was very entertaining. ' Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lister are home from Las Vegas where they spent two weeks with their children, chil-dren, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Goodwin Good-win and Mr. and Mrs. Jess Lister. Mrs. Eva Bell of Pt'nguitch is is here with her daughter Mrs. Iris Jones and family, and to attend at-tend the P H S graduation exercises exer-cises where her grandson, Dale Smith, received his diploma on Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Parkinson of Beaver were here on Monday to visit the John R. Lister family fam-ily and to attend the graduation gradua-tion exercises of their grandson, Jack Lister. Mrs. Nancy White of Los Angeles An-geles is a guest of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Robb, her cousins. Mrs. White, the former Mary Dunton, was born in this community and still claims it as her home even though she moved to Idaho many vears ago with her family, the James Duntons. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Mosdell of Cedar City spent last week end here with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy McBrlde, while their parents took in the Helldorado in Las Vegas. Miss Doris McBride accompanied accompan-ied John V. Benson to Las Vegas for that big celebration. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Edwards and Mrs. Irene Robinson drove to Provo on Friday where they attended the Seminary graduation gradua-tion of Dale Robinson. They also went on into Salt Lake City for dental attention for Cleo. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Clark of St. Anthony, Idaho were overnight over-night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Vic-tor R. Robinson. The two men were missionary companions In the New England Mission several years ago. The Clarks were returning re-turning to their home In Idaho from a vacation trip to California. Califor-nia. About 10 carloads of participants partici-pants and spectators traveled to St. George Saturday for the Re gion Two Dance Festival in the Dixie Sun Bowl. Kathleen and Vesta Rae Barton, Bar-ton, Tess and Phyllis Robb, Helen Jean Dalton, Laura Lamoreaux, Carolyn Jones, Sherry Dawn Evans, Shirlene Talbot, Mildred Hunt, LaVena Barton, Patsy Topham. Top-ham. Connie Dunton. Ruth Ell Dalton, Eugene. Robb, LaDell, Gordon and Ronnie Topham, Max Partner, Michael Williamson, J. B. Jones, Larry Lister, Michael Lamoreaux, and Eugene Board-man, Board-man, are the ones who danced. It was an educational experience for our youth to be a part of such a spectacular affair. Much credit is due our Mutual Mut-ual officers and teachers, especially espec-ially Mrs. Herbert Topham, for their untiring efforts in making it possible for our young people to participate. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Barton made a business trip to Salt Lake City last week. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Topham attended the Institute graduation gradua-tion of their nephew, James Stevenson, Ste-venson, Sunday evening in Cedar City. Mrs. Eliza Gunn and Mrs. Er-ma Er-ma Anderson of Beaver visited with the James II. Andersons last week. Mina Lamoreaux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lamoreaux, and La Rae Lamoreaux, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Lamoreaux, are to be featured in a colorful dance revue on Thursday evening. eve-ning. These little ladies are students of Miss Sherma Ann Huntington of Cedar City, who has a large class in Parowan where the affair af-fair will be held. Mina and La-Rue La-Rue will participate in three dances with varied costumes for each. Quite a few of out townspeople attended the big fight in Cedar City on Saturday night. Some of our citizens took in the circus on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Lund traveled tra-veled to Beaver to attend the BUS graduating exercises on Friday night. Mr. Lund's mother, moth-er, Mrs. Jane Patterson of Cedar Ce-dar City, returned with them to spend a few days here. Mrs. Robinson of Cedar City spent Wednesday and Thursday here with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Boardman. |
