Show Elks Convention ' Opens Today; Sets Full Agenda Utah State Elks Association president W. A. Beazer and his wife, president of the Utah Ladies La-dies of Elks, arrived in Cedar City early this week prior to the opening open-ing of the 1955 State Elks convention con-vention in this city. Approximately 500 other delegates dele-gates to the convention, and their wives are expected to register at the new B P O E Lodge 155G in Cedar City today, Thursday, to start off the activities. First general meeting on the three-day, action-packed agenda, will be a public meeting this evening from 6 to 8. Presentation of youth activity awards from throughout the state and olher awards will be made at this meeting. Public Invited According to Steve Asmus, general gen-eral chairman for the state convention, con-vention, the public has been invited in-vited to attend this meeting specifically spe-cifically for the purpose of viewing view-ing the ultra-modern building and facilties. Dedication services for the new lodge hall will also te accomplished at this state event. At 9 this evening a "Get-Acquainted" dance will be staged at the Lodge Hall. Business sessions will get under un-der way tomorrow, Friday, with the State Association session to he held at 9:00 a. m. till noon at the Lodge Ritual room. Business sessions will be continued through the afternoon and will lareak up for the a buffet luncheon lunch-eon at the Lodge Hall at 6:00 p. m. PER Banquet One of the highlights of th2 convention will be the Past Exalted Ex-alted Rulers Banquet to be held at Milt's Stage Stop Friday evening. eve-ning. The banquet will be followed follow-ed with dancing and entertainment entertain-ment at the lodge. Saturday's activities begin with a business session at 9:00 a. m. and Memorial Services will "be held at 11:00 a. m. at the First "Ward Chapel in honor of deceased deceas-ed members of lodges throughout the state. Austin Benson is in charge of this event. Final business session Will be "held and the intallation of officers of-ficers for the next year will be conducted during the Saturday afternoon session. Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p. m. the local Elks Lodge No. 1556 will be dedicated In official ceremonies cere-monies conducted by the state leaders and local officers. Convention Highlight Jlighllght of the entire convention conven-tion will be the Inaugural Banquet Ban-quet and ball Saturday evening at Hotel El Escalante. The Cedar City Chamber of Commerce Is cooperating by furnishing fur-nishing the registration badges and ribbons for the event and offering of-fering its services to the local lodge for the three-day meet.
