Show Nafl Park Officials Find Kolob Road Travel Feasible Following a week of exploration explora-tion of Zion National Monument, the area known as Kolob Canyons, Can-yons, Paul R. Franke, superintendent superin-tendent of Zion and Bryce National Nation-al Parks, announces that construction con-struction of a highway through the monument is feasible. Of course, no- official report on the findings of the exploration group can be made until after the formal for-mal report Is completed. Mr. Franke, in company with Carl Allen, San Francisco, National Na-tional Park Service office of design de-sign and construction; Glen Hen-drlx, Hen-drlx, Lake Mead recreational area, landscape architect; Waldo Wilcox, park engineer, and James Pelton, chief ranger at Zion National Na-tional Park, completed a week-long week-long study of the area early this week. According to Mr. Franke, it would be entirely feasible to construct con-struct a loop road, entering the Kolob Canyons at Dry. Creek, about 16 miles south of Cedar City, from Highway 91. Such a road would open up an area of unusual beauty, said by many to surpass that of Zion National Park. In addition it would put travelers Into the scenic area within minutes after leaving the main highway, and would undoubtedly un-doubtedly result in a tremendous increase in travel to the monument monu-ment and park. It is expected that as soon as the final report of the survey group Is made to the National Park Service, Congress will be asked to appropriate funds for further engineering and development devel-opment of the monument. |
