Show Large High School Graduating Class Learns Virtue of Narrow-mindedness Ninety-nine students of the Cedar Ce-dar City High School were told Wednesday evening of "The Virtue Vir-tue of narrow-mindedness about some things," by Dr. J. W. Williams Wil-liams of the department of political poli-tical science at the University of Utah. Dr Williams told the graduates at the Impressive ceremonies held in the College of Southern Utah auditorium that "there are times and subjects which call for broadmindedness. You will need much of it in making a success of future education and careers. "But," he continued, "there are some things the very bulwarks of life which need your narrow-minded narrow-minded devotion, especially truth and liberty, to which we must constantly dedicate our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor." Introduction of the graduates was by Principal Pratt M. Beth-ers, Beth-ers, and Herman E. Bayles of the board of education made the presentation pre-sentation of diplomas in the annual an-nual graduation march. The address of welcome to the many friends and relatives in attendance was by class president presi-dent Kenneth Terklns. The Cedar City High School orchestra or-chestra and chorus, under the direction di-rection of Prof. Roy L. Halver-sen Halver-sen and Wallace Adams, respectively, respec-tively, furnished musical numbers num-bers for the 14th annual graduation gradua-tion exercises. Many of the graduating grad-uating class members participated participat-ed In both the orchastra and the chorus as a final performance of their three years spent at the high school. In bringing this theme to life, Dr. Williams told the graduates "to be narrow-minded about the value of truth Itself In all your dealings .... be narrow-minded about our priceless possession of freedom; entertain no doubts as to the need to preserve It." Following the graduation ceremonies cere-monies the audience moved to the high School gymnasium where a final tribute to the graduates grad-uates was paid at the annual graduation dance. |
