Show ASK PERMIT TO PUT ON BOXING CONTEST Question Arises Over Power of City Commission to Grant the Request; Will Discuss Possible Monopoly. Permission to put on a six-round boxing box-ing contest at the Kichards street Auditorium Audi-torium August 14 is asked in a petition filed with the city recorder yesterday. The petition is signed by Edmund T. Olsen, representing the " International Boxing club, and it is stated that a license has been secured from the city license assessor. The filing of the request has raised a question as to whether the city commission commis-sion is empowered to grant it. Under the ordinance but one exhibition can be licensed for any one week, and at present there is a blanket license, issued is-sued for six months, in force, giving the right to another party. The question, too, whether or not the present ordinance ordi-nance allows a monopoly will also likely be brought out in a discussion over the present petition. It is also expected that some members mem-bers of the eommision will ask what has become of the ordinance introduced by Mayor Ferry at the time of the boxing contest staged by the Wards of the "Wizard of the Wasatch. At that time the ordinance, which limits boxing contests to six rounds, was tabled subject sub-ject to call at the suggestion of the mayor, but no further mention has been made of it. |
