Four persona "wore seriously injured when an automobile, owned and driven by James C'hipnuiu, dr., of this eity Vs struclc and demolished by an interurban ear a mile and a hali' west of here at 7:40 o'clock tonight. Mr. Chipmau suffered suf-fered a fractured lea: and severe bruises. Mrs. Chipmau was badly bruised, and is thought to be suffering from internal injuries. Miss Dorothy Chipinan, iS years of age, suffered a broken leg and "bruises about tho head, and Miss dean Hindley, IS years of age, suffered a fractured skull. The Misses Myrtle and Huby Wootton and Eliza Uindley escaped without serious seri-ous injuries by jumping from the machine. ma-chine. The injured were rushed to the LeVii hospital, Where thev were attended by Drs. P. M. Kelly, J. F. Xoyes and Clarence Clar-ence M. Clark of American Fork and Dr. F. D. Vorten of Lehi. Mr. Chipmau "was driving his machine so slowly that when it reached the road crossing the engine went dead and Mr. Chipmau -was unable to start it in time to avoid tho appioaching interurban car, which crashed into the automobile as it straddled tho tracks. Mr. Chipmau had been driving the machino only a few weeks. It was said last night that tho interurban inter-urban car was going at a reasonable rate of speed and that the motorman thought the Chipman automobilo was under wav. Mr. Chipman is the Bon of Mr. and Mrs. James Chipman, Sr., of 333 Fifth avenue, Salt Lake, and has for some time past been vieo president of the bank of American Fork. He is one of the best-known business men of the city and state, and is identified with many business enterprises. |
