OCR Text	Show WANT PROTECTION FROM SHOPLIFTERS Chief of Police J. Parley White yesterday yes-terday received a letter signed by a dozen merchants of South Main street asking further protection of the department against shoplifters. Chief White said that he would assign some of the men who worked In plain clothes to make an in- 1 vesti cation, but that he believed that shoplifting was no more prevalent in Salt Ijake than in any other city of its size, and that It would be virtually impossible im-possible for the police department to keep an officer during shopping hours in the stores of all .the persons who made complaint.
