Show ABRAHAM SHIELDS MAKES STATEMENT Man Who Escaped Rough Treatment at Park City Wants People to Ask His Wife Concerning Facta. Special to The Tribune. PARK CITY, July 29. Abraham Shields, who narrowly escaped rough treatment at the hands of an angry mob here last night following his conviction of beating a three-year-old stepson, was taken to Coalville early tkis morning morn-ing and placed in the county jail. According Ac-cording to information available here, it is believed that Shields will not appeal ap-peal his case, but will serve the ninety nine-ty days' sentence in jail. Before departing de-parting for Coalville Shields left the following note to the public: Should the public wish to harm me I wish to say that I am not half as guilty as believed. If they will ask my wife I know she will tell them the whole truth. For the sake and love of my wife and family I did not try to make anv defense in my case, and now I wish to ask the public to inquire of my wife and I trust they will change their opinion. During the trial Shields said that he would take all the blame for whipping the child, although bo'th he and his wife were forced to punish it to make it obey. Tho child, he declared, had a habit of throwing knives and forks at his mother and oi breaking dishes. The youngster is only 3 years of age and docs not look as though it has strength enough to throw anything heavier than a toothpick. |
