American Embassador Page at London today cabled the state department that Great Britain insist uj.on excluding from England Eng-land and Ireland Thomas Hughes Kelly of New York, treasurer of the Irish relief re-lief fund; his assistant, Joseph Smith, and Mrs. Kelly. They will leave England Eng-land Monday 'on the American liner Philadelphia. No reason for exclusion of the Irish relief workers was given by i Enibas-udor Page, who said that during j their detention at Liverpool the British authorities had permitted them to re main at a hotel without being actually imprisoned. Despite the apparentlv final decision, state department officials today still hoped the exclusion order might be modified. Additional representations in behalf of the United States were sent yesterday by the state department and also by the British embassy. |
