Show CAMERA IS FINAL JUDGEJF RACES Instantaneous Lens Arranged to Snap Horses at Winning Win-ning Post. Special Cable to The Tribune. PARIS, Aug. 30. Judging horse racing by photography Is now being practiced successfully In Belgium and France. Ono yard from the winning post a thin wlro is stretched across the course at the height of a horse's shoulder. The first horse touching tho wlro breaks It, thus releasing an automatic interrupter, acting on the shutter of an instantaneous camera placed In the Judges' box In a plane with the winning post. This gives an exact image of the horses as they pass the post. The resultant photographs pho-tographs show effectually tho precise position po-sition of each horfe at the finish. This new mode Is known ns tho "Sips" system, sys-tem, and will shortly be adopted by French racing authorities as the official standard. If this system had been applied to the last English derby, the difficult problem as to the placing of tho horses would easily have been solved. Two years ago when Luveno, running at Belgium, was placed second by the Judge, the horse I wuh proved photographically to have run a dead heat, and was eventually awarded half tho stakes. |
