Show TROOPS CALLED OUT TO PROTECT DEPUTIES CAliTUrET. Mich.. Avg 30. A company of militia was called out today to protect a party of deputies at No. 3 ahaft South Kcarsargo mine from attack by a large number of copper mlno strikers and women. The women woro particularly active, spitting1 in the faces of the deputies depu-ties and otherwise defying1 them. Tho soldiers also rescued an Allouez mine fireman, who was attacked by strikers strik-ers while on hln way to work. Tho strikers strik-ers took him from a street car and were beatlnjr him when tho mllltla arrived. Strlkors and women sympathizers at tho Champion mine resumed their attack at-tack on nonunion men today, striking them with brooms dlppod in filth and throwing missiles. On man was badly beaten and three women wore arrested. Anothor big parade of strikers was also held in Calumet. |
