' r ' I "J- v'. ft ' y , t i " ' " ' V ' ' ... - . - i ., CONCERTS SLATED By JAMIE ARBUCKLE The Davis High School orchestra will present concerts con-certs at Nampa High School and Ricks College on its way to compete for the third time at the Northwest Orchestra Festival in Portland, Ore., April 18-22. DAVIS WON the sweepstakes sweep-stakes trophy at the annual event held on the campus of Gresham Community College for two consecutive years. Any orchestra to win the floating trophy which determines deter-mines the mythical best orchestra of the western states three times consecu- tively gets to keep it permanently. per-manently. SOME OF Davis High orchestra's past achievements achieve-ments include winning the Division Three title twice at the above mentioned competition, never getting less than a superior in any district or region orchestra festival in the last seven years and performing as the Sterling Scholar orchestra in 197a E It'll be off to the Gem State, soon, for members of Davis High School's orches- tra as they perform at Nampa High School and Ricks College in Rexburg. j j This year the organization has given a Pops and Christmas Christ-mas concert, and has participated par-ticipated in the BYU Invitational Invita-tional held March 14. THE ORCHESTRA'S repertoire reper-toire for this year includes Tchaikowsky's "Marche Slave," "Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No. 1," "Gordon Jacobs Trombone Concerto," and "Glausenov's Chanp Du Menestrel," featuring soloist Steve Alder on the flute. The Davis High orchestra consists of 85 students with Willy Cardon, president; Stephanie De Graw, secretary; secre-tary; and Carol Laser, treasurer. In charge of equipment is Eric Hansen.
