Activities will continue through Saturday, April 14. Public is invited. By GARY R. BLODGETT The Bountiful 5-Points Shopping Mall will hold its grand opening Saturday, with activities extending through Saturday, April 14. MRS. SCOTT Matheson, wife of Utah's governor, will officially dedicate the grand opening with a ribbon cutting Saturday at 10 a.m. This will be followed immediately by a flag raising ceremony conducted con-ducted by Governor Matheson. It's appropriate that Governor Gover-nor and Mrs. Matheson would perform in the grand opening because they also broke the ground that started the 38-store 38-store complex about 13' months ago. At that time, Governor Matheson gained wide recognition because the ground breaking consisted of him chopping down a cherry tree. ALSO PARTICIPATING on the grand opening program Saturday will be Bounti.ul Mayor Elmer W. Barlow, County Commission Chairman Chair-man Glen W. Flint and other local and state political and civic dignitaries. There will be a slogan contest con-test (for advertising the mall) and the winner will receive an ail-expense-paid trip for two to Hawaii, plus $250 cash. ACTIVITIES during the week will include a computer show, disco dancing, an appearance ap-pearance by Miss Julie of KSL Romper Room, silent movies, flower show, a live mannequin show, ventriloquist ven-triloquist act, and an authentic authen-tic Polynesian show with fire dance. (See back page of 5-Points Mall supplement in today's Clipper for complete time schedule of weeklong activities.) activi-ties.) THE SHOPPING mall will have 38 stores for the grand opening. Two more stores are planned for opening within the next few months, and when completed the complex will have a total of 45 stores. It will be the first covered mall, and the largest shopping shop-ping center in Davis County with more than 65,000 square feet added to the existing shopping center. THE INTERIOR of the mall is beautifully furnished and landscaped with 11 non-bearing non-bearing fig trees -- each at least 15 feet tall - and other greenery. The mall is fully carpeted, heated and air con- ditioned. A large "conversar tion pit" in the center of the mall provides convenience fof ' weary customers. The vast variety of stores . and shops in the mall make for easy "one-stop" shopping. The mall is anchored by two ' large supermarkets while the 1 interior includes clothing stores, variety stores, specialty shops, snack shops, jewelry stores, and toy and gift shops, just to name a few. FOUR COVERED en7 trances lead from the large, lighted parking lot to the mall. Landscaping abounds the cinderblock and brick exterior of the mall. |
