Show One of First Eesidents Dead. Special to The Tribune. MANTI. March 1. Edward W Fox. one of tho early pioneers of Mantl. passed away tills morning after an illness of several months. Mr. Fox was born In Philadelphia, Jefferson county, N". V., August 1. 1S33. He arrived in Nauvoo In IS-ll with his parents, who died in IS 15. lie wont to. Salt Lako City In ISIS, driving an ox loam In George A. Smith's company of fifty wagons. Fox learned surveying under tho nicn-torshlp nicn-torshlp of his uncle, nnd later under General Gen-eral David II. Burr, tho first United States surveyor-gcnoral for I'tah. lie came to Mnnti In the fall of 1850 whore he had since lived. Ho was elected county surveyor for Sanpete county which office ho held for fourteen years. Ho was assessor and' collector for tho county, was a member of the city council coun-cil In IS61, 1SB2, 1871 and 1S72; was treasurer one term, was Internal revenue collector for this district eight years, was postmaster eight years aiid opened the first general store here. He was married mar-ried .Tilly -I, 1S60 to Belle Peacock, daughter daugh-ter of Honorable George and Sarah Peacock. Pea-cock. He leaves a wife and ten children. chil-dren. Mrs. TIenrick Christofferson, who has been sick for two weeks, died yesterday, she was 08 years of ago. She was born In Saby, Denmark, Her husband Is S3 years old today. |
