The total deficit for the fiscal year changed little and still stands at $21,000,000, as compared with $45,000,000 at a corresponding corre-sponding time a year ago. The balance In the general fund Increased In-creased slightly to $S5.000.000 but the working balance dropped off about $2,000,000 and the month closed with it at 528,000,000. The passage of the Panamn canal bond bill In congress today, which will allow tho treasury to Issue .' per cent Panama bonds without the privilege of national bank circulation, opens the way for Sec-rotary Sec-rotary MacVoagh o replenish tho cash drawer for its henvy expenditures for the canal work. It Is generally believed that an Issue of 3HO.000.000 to $50,000,000 will be made In the near future. |
