Show HOUSE DECLINES TO CHANGE MARRIAGE LAW Mr. Anderson's illegal marriage measure, meas-ure, house bill No. 202, was killed in the house Wednesday by the adoption of an unfavorable report from the committee on judiciary. It was not killed, however, until a fight had been made against tho committee report. The principal amendment in the bill allowed first cousins of the half-rblood to marry, and Mr Anderson and Mr. Morris took the ground that first cousins of the half-blood were no nearer related than second cousins of the full-blood, and as the law permits tho marriage of second sec-ond cousins of the first-blood, It also should permit the union of first cousins of tho half-blood. Mr. Farnsworth was the only momber who spoke in behalf of the committee report. Mr. Farnsworth said that peculiar conditions prevailed in the state and that It behooved the lawmakers to be careful. Tho report was then adopted, killing the bill. |
