Show ART liSTITUTE BILL PUSSES THE HOUSE It Is Believed That New Measure Meas-ure Means Much to Artists in Utah. The art lnstltuto measure, houso bill No. 223, by Dahlquist, was passed In tho house Wednesday. The new measure provides for a governing gov-erning board ,of five members, at least one of whom shall be an artist and one an architect. The present law provides for a committee of seven, four of whom arc artists. The new as well 38 the old law provides for the appointment of tho board by the governor. It is further provided in tho proposed measure that tho governing board may act as a-com-mltteo of exhibition, or appoint three persons, two of them to bo artists, or competent Judges of art, to act as such committee. The present law provides that art exhibitions ex-hibitions shall not be held at the same city twice In succession, while the proposed pro-posed law leaves this matter to tho discretion dis-cretion of the committee on exhibition. The purchase of works, under the proposed pro-posed law. must be made by a committee of five persons, at least two of whom must be artists, who arc not Interested In any of the work offered for sale. It also Is provided that $2000 be appropriated appropri-ated by the state annually for the Institute, Insti-tute, of which sum ?1000 is to defray the expenses of tho institute and tho remaining re-maining S1000 is to bo expended for works of art, at least one-half of which must go to Utah artists. |
