A new classification of counties, which will mean an Increase in salaries for Salt Lake county officials, was recommended by the committee on salaries and fees In tho lower house "Wednesday mornlns. In 1300 Salt I..akc county had a population popula-tion of 77.725 with an assessed valuation of property at $:iS.SGS,007. in 1010 a population pop-ulation of 131.-I2G was shown, with an assessed as-sessed valuation of property nmoilnllng to S7G.ICo.3o5. showing remarkable growth. The recommendations for the changes In classification wcro mudo in house bill J.ir.. a substitute for house bill 2.1. introduced intro-duced early In the session, by the judl-clurv judl-clurv committee at the request of tho Sheriffs' association. The original measure meas-ure provided a number of changes In the salaries or county officials with tho largest larg-est increase for sheriffs. It was referred to Hie salaries and fees committee and tho bill Introduced yesterday was the result. re-sult. Salt Lake county remains In tho first class In the new classification, but both Weber and Cache county are removed from tho second class, Weber going Into the third and Cache Into the fourth class. Utah is the only county of thu second class. Under the present law there are only fifteen classes of counties, while in the proposed law there aro twenty-seven, classified as stated, on population.
