Show efflmentarydavewigham Goofs I Remember Most I've pulled off some great moves in my day with this typewriter but none that rates with the biggie I pulled off last week. REMEMBER A week ago we named our all-county basketball team and wrote a little something about each of the players. Well this reporter, and I use that loosely, wrote about Race McCleery, the fine guard at Woods C And I quote. "Race McCleery is the other Cat player to be honored for his play which was very detrimental to their success. N,ce job Wig you did it again. Obviously the play of Race was anything but detrimental ,t was very Instrumental in their success, know was Eking instrumental when I wrote the story but sometimes this typewriter has a mind of . s own and no one knows what will come out of it. A MILLION apologies to Race and his family fami-ly There is really no excuse for an error like Sat Race is one of the finest players, and ndtviduals I know and his, play was ; very INSTRUMENTAL IN-STRUMENTAL in the Woods Cross state tU,it" looks like my rumor mill was wrong. MfcX isn t SoiSg to Oregon, so the Weber State job is no longer vacant. Word is that Roger Reid will get the BYU job which is great news to the Clearfield people who were fortunate fortun-ate enough to have him in their program for awhile. HERE'S THE latest rumor though. Jerry Pimm will not be back at Utah next year. No one is saying where he's heading but the word in the media is that he's gone from Utah. Again keep in mind this is the rumor mill we're talking about here. I had the opportunity this past week to go to Weber State and see some excellent basketball. basket-ball. We hate to admit it here in the West but the players in the East just seem to be much better. Watching those guys play was a thrill, to see the game as it should be played. SURE ONE or two great players out West, like everyone kept telling me Danny Ainge was as good as anyone playing. The truth is though teams like North Carolina State and Virginia had nine or ten Ainges on their team. I was pleased to see the fans come out on Saturday to witness that State versus Virginia final. It restored my faith in the Utah fans that they really do enjoy watching excellent basketball basket-ball games no matter who the two teams are. WHEN WAS the last time we had a coach tiam ii 'm in"1 ii iiwiiiiitu iiummi iinni" ! like Jim Valvano out here in the West. Not only is he a great coach but he makes it fun for the kids. During the press interviews this guy is cranking everyone up and his players indicated that he's the same way during a crucial timeout. time-out. They all indicated that the coach makes it fun to play. Maybe BYU should use all the money they can get their hands on and try to get a Valvano to their school. It's certain that Frank Arnold and Valvano are two very different type coaches. SPEAKING OF coaches and Jerry Pimm, why is it that all of a sudden Utah fans think Pimm is the greatest coach in college. These are the same fans that about a month ago wanted the guy's head. All of a sudden they have two great names in the NCAA tournament tourna-ment and Utah people will be mad if he's not voted coach of the year. I'm not taking sides with Pimm on any issue but it's the same guy we're talking about here. No someone tell me, a Utah fan especially, is Pimm a great coach or not. Common guys make up your minds. I GUESS it's the old saying. If a team wins it's the players and if they lose, well it must be the coach. |
