Show -v 7 " I J ; 1 : J HONORED BY LA SERTOMA The Hounliful LaSertoma honored four outstanding youth at the Freedom to Mankind banquet held March 4 at the Red Flame Restaurant. The youth and their parents, Sertomaand LaSertoma members mem-bers were in attendance along with other special invited guests. These youth are to be congratulated for their extraordinary ex-traordinary service given in church, school and community. com-munity. THE YOUTH Service Award Program was adopted by LaSertoma International at their annual convention at Miami, Fla. in 1960. The principle aims and purposes pur-poses are to seek out those youths or adults encouraging and aiding youths who are setting set-ting a pattern of leadership and service in their local communities. communi-ties. It is also to recognize and reward these efforts with a Citation, and to inspire and en-' courage other youths to emulate emu-late these recognized leaders. LA SERTOMA believes in the youth today. Youth face a terrific challenge in our world today. However, many are willing to accept the challenge and go forth offering service in many areas such as leadership, citizenship and service in our communities. All schools in the area were contacted and sent applications. appli-cations. Those receiving this honor were: KAMRA Ellis, a senior at Viewmont High School ad 18 years of age. She has served in many capacities in the community, com-munity, school and her church. She served as a volunteer volun-teer in the recent political campaign, cam-paign, worked with the Muscular Mus-cular Dystrophy Association and has served as a summer camp counselor the past two summers. Kamra plans to go into nursing nurs-ing and will attend Ricks College Col-lege this fall. JOLENE Boman, is a junior at Bountiful High School and is 17 years of age. She is presently present-ly one of four state Ambassadors Ambas-sadors in 4-H. She has been active in 4-H the past nine years and has served as a volunteer at the Rocky Mountain Moun-tain Rehabilitation Center. Her 4-H record book won her a trip recently to Chicago. Shauna Hadley is a junior at Bountiful High School and is 16 years of age. She has been actively engaged in many service ser-vice projects. She has been a member of Young Americans, entertained at rest homes, Primary Children's Hospital, etc. She is a member of Bountiful Bounti-ful Community Theater Debs and Squires. SHAUNA IS is a member of the State PTSA Board. She is the first and only student to work at the state level as a PTSA Representative on the PTA Membership Commission Commis-sion .She won a trip to Switzerland Switzer-land and leaves on April 14, for being involved in getting subscriptions sub-scriptions and writing an essay on why she should go for the Deseret News. She had 100 percent of her subscribers write a recommendation. Kelly Ann Child is a senior at Bountiful High School. She is a member of the Davis County Coun-ty Mental Health Board. She has served as a volunteer can-dystriper can-dystriper at Primary Children's Chil-dren's Hospital for one and one-half years. She served on Orrin Hatch's Youth Advisory Committee and participated in many other sevice projects. Kelly Ann was not able to attend the banquet as she was participating in the Utah Junior Miss contest in Salt Lake City. MRS. VIRGINIA Hill is the president of the Bountiful LaSertomas this year. Mrs. Geraldine Mills was the youth service award chairman. |
