HER PROJECT which was classified in the biological-medical biological-medical area, described and illustrated the physiological changes which occur in muscles mus-cles and fat as a result of aerobic aero-bic exercise. To test the hypothesis that "aerobic exercise increases Marcia Lynn Matthews of Bountiful Junior High was a Davis County Science Fair contest winner in competition competi-tion held recently at Davis High School. the amount of muscle, increases in-creases the metabolic rate, raises the level of caloric-consuming caloric-consuming enzymes inside the muscle and increases the burning burn-ing offat," Miss Matthews studied stu-died five ladies who participated partici-pated in an aerobic dance class over a three-month period. Body measurements, blood pressure and heart rates were regularly recorded. At the end of the study interval, significant signifi-cant improvement had been achieved. MISS MATTHEW'S and her project received the following awards: first place oral reporting, report-ing, biological and medical category; first place plaque project exhibiting, biological and medical category; United States Army, math-engineering-computer award; United States Navy certificate, certifi-cate, superior achievement; U.S. Navy Trophy, best overall over-all 8lh grade project. Maria Matthews is the daughter of Mary Lynn and Kelly Matthews of Bountiful. |
