Show Task Force Member For The Retarded Dr. Geraldine M. Clark of Bountiful, will serve as a task force member representing Utah as the member of the President's Committee on Mental Retardation (PCMR during the Full Citizenship Rights for the Handicapped Symposium to be held at the Hotel Utah Motor Inn, on October Oc-tober 16. FEATURED panelists will include attorneys of national reputation as well as prominent local lawyers. The conference is being sponsored by the Utah State Bar, the President's Committee Commit-tee on Mental Retardation, the Utah Governor's Advisory Council for Handicapped and Developmentaliy Disabled Children, the Utah cahpter of the American Association on Mental Deficiency (AAMD) and the law schools of the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. LITIGATION AND legislation legisla-tion in many states have begun to open up new opportunities oppor-tunities for handicapped citizens ci-tizens as a matter of right. Significant rulings on the right to education, right to treatment, right to payment for work done, right to be free of experimentation, right to vote, and non-discriminatory zoning regulations have resulted. Some of these will be discussed by the sum-posium sum-posium panelists as a starting point for discussion. A high official in the U.S. Department of Justice, Louis M. Thrasher, will be one of the leading participants in the conference. He is director of the Office of Special Litigation, Litiga-tion, Civil Rights Division. OTHER ATTORNEYS joining join-ing him on the panel will be Dennis Haggertv of Philadelphia, Pa., Lawrence A. Kane, Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, Michael Kindred of Columbus Ohio, and W. Lane Porter of Washington, D. C. in addition to many others of national and local prominence. The program is expected to draw 200 lawyers and law students, social work and special education students and teachers, other professionals profes-sionals working with the handicapped, han-dicapped, and parents. Designed to provide orientation orienta-tion to lawyers on emerging legal concepts dealing with rights of the handicapped, the conference will also allow opportunity op-portunity to explore the legal situation of mentally retarded I T t, 7f DR.
