Show Will Rogers Is Topic At Jessamine Literary The Jessamine Literary Club met last Saturday at the home of Bertha L. Muir with Mrs. D. T. Burningham and Mrs. Norene Hatch assisting hostesses. MRS. AMANDA Anderson, club president, conducted the meeting and read a beautiful poem to welcome the guests at the first meeting of the year. Year books prepared by Mrs. Alice Carlson were distributed dis-tributed to the members. The programs for the year deal with Bicentennial subjects. Mrs. Emily Eldredge was added to the honorary rolls due to ill health. She has been an active member for many years. MRS. LOIS Pickett was voted in as a new member. Lois will transfer from the Junior Jessamine Club. Mrs. Ardell Mills and Mrs. Josephine Rhinehart were appointed to the membership committee. Mrs. Muir presented the lesson for the day. It was Will Rogers - His Life and Times, written by Richard M. Ketchum. Mrs. Muir introduced in-troduced the subject by playing play-ing a record of Mr. Rogers' thoughts on "Mother's Day." The group sang two of his favorite songs "Meet Me In St. Louie, Meet Me At The Fair" and "Give My Regards To Broadway." Mrs. Emily Holbrook led the singing and Mrs. Norene Hatch played the piano accompaniment. FOLLOWING the review, many pictures from the book were shown on a screen using an overhead viewer. Each guest was given a book mark on which had been pasted sayings of Will Rogers. Plans made for new club groups were given to members. MRS. DORA Trowbridge reported that a beautiful storage cupboard had been placed in the Jessamine Shepherd reading room in the South Branch Library. Club members were requested to give any mementoes they had of Miss Shepherd, to be placed in the permanent storage cupboard. Refreshments were served and club adjourned, blm |
