Show By LYDIA KILPACK 295-0021 All good things must come to an end, and so our beautiful long sunny autumn is with us no more. But isn't it sort of nice and cozy to to be able to close our good strong doors against the wind and wet of colder days, and instead of watering and mowing the lawn, settle down by the fire with a good book. Another of the Walker boys is going on a mission. This time it is Tom. He has received his call for the Tulsa-Oklahoma mission and will be leaving on Nov. 8. His farewell will be Sunday, Oct. 19 in the Centerville Eighth Ward. The parents are Orlo and Jolene Walker. Congratulations to all of the children in the Centerville Elementary school who were winners in the Safety Contest held by the PTA in which the boys and girls made posters encouraging safety at home, school, and play. Steven and Carolyn Nelson are excited over their new little twins born on Sept. 26 - a little girl, Stephanie, weighing 5 lbs. 8' ozs. and a little boy, Steven, weighing 5 lbs. 14i2 ozs. Their grandparents, grand-parents, are Mr. and Mrs. Walter V. Nelson, Bountiful, and Mr. and Mrs. Morriss Kundick, Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. John Cum-mings Cum-mings are happy over a little daughter born on Friday, Oct. 10, weighing 7 lbs. 2 ozs. Her name is Christina and her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Don Cummings, Fillmore, Fill-more, Utah and Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Nowers, Beaver. And for Jerry and Sherel Lake it was also a new little daughter born on Monday, Sept. 29. Joanne Jackson took her children, Collette, Kevin, and Brent Green, and Daren Jackson to Sweetwater for a vacation over the U.E.A. weekend. Also accompaning the family were the Jackson's foster daughter, Cheryl Glad and Jason King and Guy Zwahlen, friends of Mrs. Jackson's son. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Jackson Jack-son entertained at a family birthday dinner party for their daughter Collett's 16th birthday. A farewell testimonial will be held in the Second Ward on Sunday, Oct. 19 for Mike Oman, son of Glen and Elaine Oman who is leaving soon for a mission to Tennessee. The week of Oct. 5 to the 12 was Ward Conference in the Eighth Ward. Theme of the conference was "How Long Can Rolling Water Remain Pure." Guest speakers were President Stanley M. Smoot and David Beecher, and Farrell Wiser. Centerville Special Interest .people enjoyed a very ' interesting fireside on Sundav evening, Oct. 12. It was in conjunction with the Kays-ville Kays-ville and Farmington Stakes and was held in the Farmington Far-mington Rock Chapel. Speakers were Mr. and Mrs. Winfred Hubrick of Centerville. Mr. Hubrick as a child, with his family had escaped es-caped the Iron Curtain of East Berlin and came to America. Centerville Special Interests were hostesses for the evening and included Bonnie Evensen, LaVaun Burgin and Pearl Green. Mr. and Mrs. William Ar-buckle, Ar-buckle, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arbuckle, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Trump of Centerville and Mr. and Mrs. Court Loder of Bountiful have returned from an exciting week's trip to the Canary Islands. The return trip was not very enjoyable for Mrs. William Arbuckle, who had contacted a case of food poisoning somewhere along the way. On Nov. 7 the Stake Relief Society will be presenting a Home Making Fair. All the skills of homemaking such as quilts, various kinds of handwork, hand-work, cooking, and Christmas decorations will be shown. Mrs. Dora Smoot, who underwent un-derwent surgery on her knee recently is recovering nicelv. Jeff Berthold, son of Sig and Dolores Berthold returned re-turned home from his mission on Sept. 30. Jeff was in the Brazil North Central mission, and was in San Paulo when the Area Conference was held there. Visiting with Mrs. Thelma Olson during the week was her son Ray Olson with his wife and family from Jerome, Ida. Visiting with Lydia Kilpack over the weekend was her daughter, Doris and her husband, hus-band, Rulon Gull, from Poca-tello, Poca-tello, Ida. The Relief Society Room was packed on Tuesday, Oct. 15 with members of the 8th Ward Relief Society, who came to hear a lesson, "Evidence of Physical Illness," Ill-ness," given by Mary Lou Shirts, and a special lesson on economical and delicious ways of preparing food, given by Specialist, Eugenia Chapman. Chap-man. A delicious luncheon was served afterwards. Jack and Margaret Ricks have returned from a trip to Woodland Hills, Calif., where they visited with their son, Jack E. Ricks, his wife Cynthia and their small son, Cameron. They also visited Caramel By the Sea and Lake Tahoe, and though it rained a lot they still had a very. enjoyable visit. Mrs. Matilda Ogzewalla who is 83 years old enjoyed a trip by plane to California the past week. It was the first time she had flown and really thought it was great. She was accompanied by her Aunt, Mrs. Larene Blatter who lives in Orange, Calif. After visiting in Orange, Mrs. Ogzewalla and Mrs. Blatter traveled by airplaine to Modesto, Calif., and went from there to the Oakland Temple to witness the marriage ceremony of Mrs. Ogzewall's grandson, Gerald Grant, son of Horace and Lucille Grant who are former residents of Centerville, and Miss Gaylen Leib. The newlyweds will make their home in Modesto where Gerald is archetect of a new LDS Chapel. Mrs. Ogzewalla returned to her home by car with her granddaughter Dixie Grant Burt and her husband Randy of Roosevelt, Utah. |
