Show Senator Moss Pleased With Utah Answers Senator Frank E. Moss, D-Utah, D-Utah, reported that the response res-ponse to a special issues questionnaire he sent to Utah in August has been "overwhelming." HE SAID the total number of questionnaires sent out was 228,103. So far, he said, nearly 50,000 have been filled out and sent back - "and they're still coming in!" "Most pollsters say a 10 percent return on a questionnaire question-naire is unheard of," he said, "but we've topped that figure two-and-a-half times already and it could go higher. This really is extraordinary!" MOSS SAID the unusually high return on the questionnaire question-naire indicates that Utahns are seriously concerned about the state of the nation's economy and the forces that appear to be threatening their way of life. The questionnaire contained con-tained 19 questions on current issues, such as whether the Kaiparowits power project should be completed, whether price controls should be lifted from natural gas and domestic domes-tic oil, and what, in the view of the respondent, is the major source of inflation. "WITH' OVER half of the questionnaires tabulated, we are seeing some definite trends in the answers," the Senator said. "For example, the responses are running almost al-most 30-1 in favor of completing complet-ing Kaiparowits. They are running 10-1 in favor of Utah adopting a policy toward the construction construc-tion of other power plants in the state, although they are divided on whether we should encourage development now or wait and see what the impact im-pact of Kaiparowits is. Very few want to block further power plant construction entirely." en-tirely." ANOTHER TREND, he said, is the response to the question about the major cause of inflation. He said the responses are running 30-1 that the culprit is heavy government spending. "It's very sobering to read the responses and the comments com-ments on these question-nairs," question-nairs," Moss said. "That so many people would take the time and trouble to answer all the questions has impressed me very much." THE SENATOR said he is reading batches of the questionnaires ques-tionnaires every day, usually taking a handful home with him at night. "Make no mistake mis-take - I am reading these," he said. |
