Show By LE ANN ALLEN "If we have a spot in our community that is detrimental detrimen-tal to our youth I resent it and will resist it to the degree 1 can," said Mayor Morris Swapp. HE ASKED the city council to scrutinize a game room business in Bountiful where youth assemble. A report by the police chief shows that the business has a license for two pinball machines but doesn't have a beer license and doesn't sell beer. However, reports from anxious parents and observers ob-servers indicate beer and possibly drugs are being used on the premises. The mayor showed a stack of let- ters from parents stating their 14 and 15-year-olds are being attracted. IN OTHER action, the council approved a fire fighting fight-ing agreement with Hill Air Force Base, set a hearing date for clarification of single units among condominiums and marked Nov. 29 on their calendar for the community's Christmas parade sponsored by the local merchants and Chamber of Commerce. J.W. Brewer Tire Co. took the bid among local tire businesses for the city's tire needs during the year. Tires for all departments of the city including police, power, water streets, etc. will cost $6062. THE FIRE fighting agreement with Hill Field is only voluntary. "We would reciprocate when there was a need anyway," said the City Manager Grant Petersen. "This only makes them feel freer to call on us." A hearing was set for Nov. 5 to spell out some clauses in the condominium ordinance where single residential building lots are included. It should latitude for exceptions at the discretion of the council coun-cil on such things as density, slopes, location, etc., says City Attorney Layne Forbes. THE CHAMBER of Commerce Com-merce instead of the Jaycees will sponsor this year's Christmas parade. It will be held the day after Thanksgiving Thanksgiv-ing on Saturday morning. Five Point and Main Street merchants will combine efforts ef-forts says chamber member Lois Pickett. |
