Show U U Hot Meals For Seniors LETTER TO THE EDITOR On Sept. 26, 1975 an article appeared in your paper headed head-ed "Hot meals for Senior Citizens" Ci-tizens" followed by another article the following week. Since then we have received a call encouraging us to participate par-ticipate in this program. IT IS BEING pushed here and in surrounding cities. Apparently there are no re-' strictions on ability to pay and anyone can hop in their . "Cad" and drive down and partake of a handout, with a token charge of none at all if so inclined. This being funded by a Federal grant and funds from the county. Then we complain of our taxes, the cost of inflation infla-tion and worry about the un-surmountable un-surmountable debt left to our children. THE LORD said, "By the sweat of thy face shall thou eat bread, till your return to the ground." This does not state life would be easy or that by the labor of someone else were we to be sustained or coddled. We cannot ignore the fact that someone else must pay for this monstrous monster our leaders, and our lack of interest and selfishness, have created for us. THIS EVIL and others like it would be killed if we would stiffen our backbones and not accept this handout. Oh, yes our neighbor down the street does, so why shouldn't I get my share? Can we afford to compromise our integrity, honor and moral values and the teachings of our Church to further a welfare state and socialism. The success of these programs depends on citizens willingness to participate par-ticipate and accept this welfare wel-fare and so the push for more involvement. LET US multiply the grant of $126,713 to our county by over 3000 counties in our nation, na-tion, a grand total of over 380 million dollars. Was there ever a government project that did not grow and become a monster sucking-our life blood. Witness the scandle of the Food Stamp program, Medicare, Medicaid and others. This does not include multi-million dollar programs to build new centers in every hamlet. The expense does not stop there for every employee is a non-producer, a drone living off the rest of the workers. The latest figure on employment shows 600 plus hired by private enterprise and over 900 workers hired by the government, in Utah alone. I COULD never be against helping where there is real need and the volunteer workers are so much in need but it should be a local humanitarian or religious re sponsibility and with the responsibility re-sponsibility of the family first to their own. We are to the place in our thinking now that politicians are elected by the amount of funding projects they can bring back to their constituents, consti-tuents, more free loading in every way. So goes our great Republic on its 200th birthday birth-day to a nation of welfarism and socialism, while the blood .and lives of the patriots of 1776 cry out to save our nation and constitution.
